Stock markets surge in early trade tracking rally in global peers, RBI’s jumbo rate cut

Mumbai, Jun 9 (PTI) Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty surged in early trade on Monday tracking a rally in global markets and upbeat investors’ sentiment following the Reserve Bank’s jumbo rate cut of 50 basis points. The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 480.01 points to 82,669 in early trade. The 50-share NSE Nifty surged 157.05 points to 25,160.10. Mumbai, Jun 9 (PTI) The rupee traded in a narrow range and depreciated 4 paise to 85.72 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday, weighed down by elevated crude oil prices and the dollar index. Forex traders said while the rupee benefitted from the initial reaction to the RBI rate cut, the aggressive rate cut narrows the interest rate differential with global peers. New Delhi, Jun 7 (PTI) The Congress on Saturday alleged that the Modi government has failed to isolate Pakistan on the global stage after the Pahalgam terror attack, calling it a “criminal betrayal” of Indian soldiers and citizens. Congress’ head of media and publicity department, Pawan Khera, said instead of strong action against Pakistan, China armed it with fifth-generation jets and missiles and the World Bank and the ADB gave more aid to the neighbouring country.
