Cash discovery row: Justice Yashwant Varma moves Supreme Court against inquiry report

New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) Allahabad High Court judge Yashwant Varma has moved the Supreme Court seeking to invalidate a report by an in-house inquiry panel, which found him guilty of misconduct in the cash discovery row. Varma has sought quashing of the May 8 recommendation by then Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna urging Parliament to initiate impeachment against him. The government plans to move a motion to remove Varma in Parliament’s Monsoon session beginning July 21. Mumbai, Jul 18 (PTI) The rupee appreciated 6 paise to 86.06 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday on the back of a weaker greenback and a marginal drop in global crude oil prices. Mumbai, Jul 18 (PTI) Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty declined in initial trade on Friday dragged by foreign fund outflows and a muted start to the earnings season. Analysts said sentiment among banking stocks is especially cautious in response to Axis Bank’s latest financial results, which fell short of market expectations.
