Rupee falls 6 paise to 86.17 against US dollar in early trade

Mumbai, Jun 16 (PTI) Rupee declined 6 paise to 86.17 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Monday (June 16, 2025) as global crude oil prices continued to surge amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. A strong dollar against international currencies and FII outflows further pressured the rupee, while a positive opening at the domestic equity market and an increase in the country’s forex reserves prevented further losses, according to forex traders. At the interbank foreign exchange, the local unit opened at 86.16 before falling further to 86.17 against the greenback, down 6 paise from its previous close.

Markets rebound in early trade after two days of slump

Mumbai, Jun 16 (PTI) Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty rebounded in early trade on Monday tracking a rally in Asian markets after two days of sharp decline. The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 288.79 points to 81,407.39 in early trade. The 50-share NSE Nifty went up by 98.9 points to 24,817.50. From the 30-Sensex firms, Power Grid, UltraTech Cement, Bharti Airtel, Larsen & Toubro, Asian Paints, NTPC, Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys were among the biggest gainers. Air India crash probe focuses on engine, flaps; India orders safety checks on 787 fleet

AHMEDABAD, India, June 13 (Reuters) – The investigation into the Air India plane crash that killed more than 240 people is focusing on the engine, flaps and landing gear, a source said on Friday, as the aviation regulator ordered safety checks on the airline’s entire Boeing-787 fleet.
