Stock markets close lower on selling in IT stocks, fresh foreign fund outflows

Mumbai, Jul 17 (PTI) Benchmark stock indices Sensex and Nifty settled lower on Thursday following selling in IT shares and investors remaining in a wait-and-watch mode ahead of the outcome of the US-India trade talks. The 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 375.24 points or 0.45 per cent to settle at 82,259.24. During the day, it fell by 415.21 points or 0.50 per cent to 82,219.27. The 50-share NSE Nifty closed lower by 100.60 points or 0.40 per cent to 25,111.45. Fresh foreign fund outflows and subdued quarterly earnings dented investors’ sentiment, experts said. Mumbai, Jul 17 (PTI) The rupee declined 20 paise to settle at 86.12 against the US dollar on Thursday amid a stronger greenback, outflow of foreign funds and volatile global crude oil prices. Selling trend in the domestic equity markets and uncertainties over the outcome of the ongoing India-US trade talks further pressured the rupee, according to forex traders. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 85.93 against the US dollar and traded in the range of 85.80-86.13 during the day before settling at 86.12, down 20 from its previous close. ISLAMABAD, July 17 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to visit Pakistan in September, two local television news channels reported on Thursday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
