Sensex recovers 315 pts on value buying in consumer durables, auto shares

Mumbai, Sep 25 (PTI) Benchmark stock indices Sensex and Nifty rebounded on Friday after value buying in blue-chip banking, oil & gas, and auto shares following recent sharp losses. The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 315.20 points, or 0.43 per cent, to settle at 73,895.74 with 19 of its constituents ending higher and 11 down. During the day, it hit a high of 73,968.05 and a low of 73,477.77, gyrating 490.28 points. The index had slid to an over three-month low in the previous session. The 50-share NSE Nifty was up 77.40 points, or 0.34 per cent, to end at 23,140.50.

Haryana Congress holds protest, demands arrest of CEC Gyanesh Kumar

Chandigarh, Sep 25 (PTI) Haryana Congress on Friday protested here demanding the arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and a review of his decisions, with police using water cannons against the protesters to prevent the gherao of office of the chief electoral officer. Gaurav Gogoi and senior Congress leaders detained during protest demanding CEC’s removal

Guwahati, Sep 25 (PTI) Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi and several senior party leaders were detained on Friday while trying to break through police barricades during a protest demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, police said. The Congress, led by Gogoi, had taken out a march from its state headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, and planned to proceed towards the Chief Electoral Officer’s office to burn an effigy of the CEC.
