Mumbai, Apr 17 (PTI) Stock market benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty rallied nearly 1 per cent on Friday, driven by optimism surrounding easing geopolitical tensions and fresh foreign fund inflows. Renewed hopes of a diplomatic resolution between the US and Iran, along with a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, have materially improved global risk appetite, a market analyst said. Indian oil refiners lining up oil cargoes to meet local demand, official says

NEW DELHI, April 17 (Reuters) – Indian oil refiners ​are doing their ‌best to line-up oil cargoes to ​meet local demand, ​an Indian government official ⁠said on ​Friday, after the United ​States decided not to extend a waiver ​from sanctions on ​crude purchases from Russia ‌and ⁠Iran. The U.S. waiver for sanctioned Russian oil purchases expired ​on ​April ⁠11 and the exemption on ​Iranian oil ​is ⁠due to end on April 19.

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, April 17, 2026 (AP) — Sri Lanka has sent home 238 Iranian sailors, including 32 who survived a U.S torpedo attack that sank their ship in the Indian Ocean, officials said Friday. Rupee rises 29 paise to settle at 92.85 against US dollar

Mumbai, Apr 17 (PTI) The rupee appreciated by 29 paise to settle at 92.85 (provisional) against the US dollar on Friday, buoyed by a weakening American currency and retreating crude oil prices amid increasing hopes of easing geopolitical tensions. Renewed buying in domestic equity markets and fresh inflow of foreign funds also supported the local currency, forex traders said. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 92.93 and touched an intraday high of 92.65 against the greenback.
