Rupee rises 10 paise to 85.54 against US dollar in early trade

Mumbai, Apr 17 (PTI) The rupee rallied for the fourth straight session and rose 10 paise to 85.54 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday amid a renewed inflow of foreign funds in domestic equities and a weak American currency. However, subdued equity market sentiment and a slight recovery in crude oil prices put the local currency under pressure, according to forex traders. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 85.48 and slipped to 85.54 against the greenback in early deals, trading 10 paise higher from its previous closing level. Supreme Court proposes to stay key provisions of Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025

New Delhi, Apr 16 (PTI) In a significant development, the Supreme Court on Wednesday proposed to stay certain key provisions of the contentious Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, including the power to denotify properties declared as waqf by courts and inclusion of non-Muslims in central Waqf councils and boards. The top court proposed to pass the order, which was opposed by the Centre as it sought a detailed hearing before any such interim order. New Delhi, Apr 16 (PTI) If Muslims would be allowed to be a part of Hindu religious trusts, the Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Centre while hearing pleas challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
