New Delhi, Mar 9 (PTI): Election Commissioner Arun Goel resigned on Saturday, days before the expected announcement of the schedule for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. His tenure was till December 2027. According to a law ministry notification, Goel’s resignation has been accepted by President Droupadi Murmu with effect from Saturday. It was not immediately known why he stepped down. Goel, a retired bureaucrat, was a 1985-batch IAS officer of the Punjab cadre. He had joined the Election Commission in November 2022. New Delhi, March 9 (PTI) A day after a Delhi Police sub-inspector was suspended for kicking people offering ‘namaz’ in Inderlok, security personnel remain deployed to maintain law and order in the area, officials said. At least three companies of paramilitary along with the local police will continue to be deployed in Inderlok and its nearby areas in north Delhi on Saturday, they said. Rahul Gandhi fielded from Wayanad as Cong announces first list of 39 candidates

New Delhi, Mar 8 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will contest the Lok Sabha polls from Kerala’s Wayanad again, the party announced on Friday as it released its first list of 39 candidates. Congress general secretary K C Venugopal will contest from Alappuzha (Kerala), former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel from Rajnandgaon, Jyotsna Mahant from Korba, Tamradhwaj Sahu from Mahasamund and Shashi Tharoor from Thiruvananthapuram. Venugopal said the list has 15 general category candidates while 24 are from the SC, ST, OBC and minority communities. Congress treasurer Ajay Maken said the list has a good mix of youth and experience.
