New Delhi [India], October 3 (ANI): The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved to confer the status of classical language to Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, Assamese, and Bengali languages. The Government of India decided to create a new category of languages as “classical languages” on October 12, 2004, declaring Tamil as a classical language. The government also set a criterion for the status of classical language that the language must be of high antiquity in its early texts/recorded history over a thousand years, a body of ancient literature/texts that is considered a valuable heritage by generations of speakers, and the literary tradition

Non-gazetted railway employees to get bonus equivalent to 78 days’ wages ahead of festive season

New Delhi, Oct 3, 2024: Railway employees will receive a bonus equivalent to their 78 days’ salaries ahead of festive season, a move that will benefit more than 11,72,240 non-gazetted staff of the national transporter, the government announced on Thursday. “The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB), equivalent to 78 days’ wages, for the financial year 2023-24 for all eligible non-gazetted railway employees,” Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said here. The maximum amount payable per eligible railway employee is Rs.17,951/- for 78 days. The above amount will be paid to various categories,

Fight against caste-based discrimination not a battle to be won overnight: Supreme Court

New Delhi, Oct 3 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Thursday said the fight against caste-based discrimination is not a battle that can be won overnight and it requires sustained effort, dedication, and the willingness to confront and challenge societal norms that perpetuate inequality. The top court observed that the Constitution stands as a testament to the fight against historical injustices, and said the pervasive influence of caste necessitates continuous efforts to ensure equality and justice for all citizens.
