Mumbai, May 5 (PTI) Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty closed higher on Monday, supported by sustained foreign fund inflows and a sharp correction in global crude oil prices. The 30-share BSE benchmark climbed 294.85 points or 0.37 per cent to settle at 80,796.84, extending its previous day’s rally. During the day, it jumped 547.04 points or 0.67 per cent to 81,049.03. New Delhi, May 5 (PTI) Gold prices rose Rs 550 to Rs 97,350 per 10 grams in the national capital on Monday amid rise in precious metal rates in the global markets. According to the All India Sarafa Association, the precious metal of 99.9 per cent purity had closed at Rs 96,800 per 10 grams on Friday. Gold of 99.5 per cent purity also appreciated Rs 550 to Rs 96,900 per 10 grams on Monday. The yellow metal had settled at Rs 96,350 per 10 grams in the previous market session. Mumbai, May 5 (PTI) The rupee surged 24 paise to 84.33 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, supported by a sharp decline in crude oil prices and a positive trend in domestic equities. Robust equity inflows — totalling Rs 2,769.81 crore — reflect continued foreign investor interest in Indian assets, forex traders said, adding while capital inflows offer support, global uncertainties could cap gains.
