Kananaskis (Canada), Jun 5 (PTI) India and Canada have agreed to restore High Commissioners to each other’s capitals at an early date, the first in “calibrated steps” to restore stability to the “very important relationship”, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney had a “very positive and constructive meeting” on the sidelines of the G7 Summit here in Kananaskis. “The meeting discussed the importance of the India-Canada relationship, which is based on shared values, democracy and the rule of law, people-to-people contact and many other commonalities,” Misri said in a video statement.

Washington, Jun 17 (PTI) Two influential congressmen have introduced a bipartisan resolution in the US Congress to designate July 6 as “A Day of Compassion” in honour of the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday. The resolution was introduced on Monday by Republican Michael McCaul and Democrat Jim McGovern. New Delhi, Jun 17 (PTI) Drinking a cup or two of black coffee daily could lower risk of death by 14 per cent, but adding milk or sugar could diminish the benefits, according to a new study. The same link was not observed for coffee with high amounts of added sugar and saturated fat, researchers said. “The health benefits of coffee might be attributable to its bioactive compounds, but our results suggest that the addition of sugar and saturated fat may reduce the mortality benefits,” Fang Fang Zhang, from Tufts University in the US, and senior author of the study

Gold declines Rs 1,200/10 g amid weak global trends

New Delhi, Jun 17 (PTI) Gold prices declined by Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,00,170 per 10 grams in the national capital on Tuesday due to continuous selling by jewellers and stockists in line with weak global trends, according to the All India Sarafa Association. The precious metal of 99.9 per cent purity had closed at Rs 1,01,370 per 10 grams in the previous market session.
