KOLKATA, November 7 (PTI) An assistant engineer of Kolkata Municipal Corporation was arrested on Friday in a corruption case, police said. Partha Chongdar, 35, was under scanner for months after several complaints of graft were registered against him, they said. He was arrested from his residence after a marathon interrogation, they added.

New Delhi, Nov 7 (PTI) Gold prices extended gains for the third consecutive session on Friday, by rising Rs 520 to Rs 1,21,133 per 10 grams, tracking firm global cues amid expectations of a US Federal Reserve rate cut following soft labour data. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures for December delivery appreciated by Rs 520, or 0.43 per cent, to Rs 1,21,133 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 13,446 lots. Silver futures also have robust traction. The white metal for December delivery rallied by Rs 1,598, or 1.09 per cent, to Rs 1,48,667 per kilogram

People rejecting NDA in Bihar elections, they know system is remote controlled: KC Venugopal

New Delhi, Nov 7 (PTI) Congress leader KC Venugopal on Friday claimed that a former union minister has “exposed” a scam related to power purchases in Bihar and said the people are rejecting the NDA in the ongoing elections in the state as they know that the system is being “remote controlled”. In a post on X, Venugopal alleged that the Adani Group is receiving “red carpet treatment” in Bihar and asserted that corruption would be uncovered, with those responsible being held accountable. However, there has been no reaction from the government, the BJP or the Adani Group so far.

Supreme Court says Air India crash report does not insinuate anything against pilot

Nov 7 (Reuters) – The Supreme Court said on Friday that a preliminary report on the fatal Air India crash does not insinuate anything against the pilot and will hear a plea from the pilot’s father seeking an independent probe on November 10. The father of the Air India pilot in a June crash that killed 260 has asked the Supreme Court to order an independent investigation that takes into account causes other than pilot action.
