New Delhi, Jun 9 (PTI) A day after an opposition INDIA bloc meeting stressed unity and better coordination among the alliance partners, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday met senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi at her 10, Janpath residence. Sources said the two leaders are learnt to have discussed the strategy between the two parties going forward after the opposition bloc meeting, and following an exodus of Trinamool members after the party’s defeat to the BJP in the recent Bengal polls. Mumbai, Jun 9 (PTI) The rupee appreciated 25 paise to close at 95.36 (provisional) against the US dollar on Tuesday, as Brent crude oil prices and the US dollar index retreated from their elevated levels after a pause in US-Iran hostilities. Forex traders said besides the de-escalation of tensions in the West Asia war, likely intervention by the Reserve Bank of India, positive domestic markets and easing US treasury yields supported the rupee. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 95.47, then touched an intraday high of 95.23 and a low of 95.67 against the US dollar.

Mumbai, Jun 9 (PTI) Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty ended higher on Tuesday, a day after facing sharp losses, in tandem with a recovery in global markets and easing of hostilities between Israel and Iran. A rally in bank stocks and cooling oil prices also added to the markets’ optimism. The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 394.50 points, or 0.54 per cent, to settle at 73,918.76. During the day, it jumped 511.15 points, or 0.69 per cent, to 74,035.41. The 50-share NSE Nifty ended 119.10 points, or 0.52 per cent, higher at 23,242.10.
