Rajneesh Goel appointed as Karnataka’s new Chief Secretary

Bengaluru, November 22, 2023: Rajneesh Goel, IAS officer of the 1986 batch, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Karnataka. He will replace Vandita Sharma, who is retiring this month-end. She became the Chief Secretary in May 2022, making her the fourth woman to occupy the position. Goel will be Chief Secretary until his superannuation in July 2024. He is currently the Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister as well as the Home Department. The State Cabinet had authorised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to select the next Chief Secretary. Goel will be the 40th Chief Secretary of Karnataka.

BANGKOK (AP) — Thailand’s Cabinet on Tuesday approved an amendment to its civil code to allow same-sex marriage, with an expectation for the draft to be submitted to Parliament next month. Karom Polpornklang, a deputy government spokesperson, said the amendment to the Civil and Commercial Code will change the words “men and women” and “husband and wife” to “individuals” and “marriage partners” for same-sex couples to be able to receive the same rights that heterosexual couples receive. Indian rescuers drill halfway towards workers trapped in tunnel

SILKYARA, India, Nov 22 (Reuters) – Rescuers have drilled about halfway through fallen debris to reach 41 workers trapped for ten days inside a collapsed tunnel in the Indian Himalayas, an official said on Wednesday. The men have been stuck in the 4.5-km (3-mile) tunnel in Uttarakhand state since it caved in early on Nov. 12 and are safe, authorities have said, with access to light, oxygen, food, water and medicines.
