Kensington, West London, December 28, 2023: Sleeping naked is actually beneficial for both your physical and mental health – and the positive effects will last after you wake up.
When temperature below 20 degrees Celsius, many of us are going to bed dressed in fluffy pajamas and a hot water bottle.
But, it turns out that, even in winter, you ought to be taking off your clothes – not wearing more of them.
Sammy Margo, sleep expert at Dreams said: ‘While many people might think that bundling up in winter is the best way to keep warm, sleeping naked can actually help to regulate your body temperature and improve your sleep quality.
‘It’s a surprising yet effective way to stay cosy and comfortable during the cold months, while giving our bodies that much needed wellbeing boost too.’
Still not convinced? Here are some of the benefits, according to Sammy:
- You fall asleep faster. Your body temperature plays a crucial role in the timing of your sleep. It’s linked to your circadian rhythm – the internal body clock which controls your sleep/awake cycle. Falling into a deep sleep is linked to cooling your body, so allowing your body to cool down by sleeping naked can signal to you that it’s time to sleep. This means you’ll potentially fall asleep faster transition into restful slumber.
- Enhanced intimacy and emotional bonding. Sleeping naked with a partner in the winter may lead to increased physical and emotional intimacy. It encourages skin-to-skin contact, which can release oxytocin, a hormone associated with bonding and trust, ultimately improving your relationship.
- Improves complexion. Taking your makeup off before bed is a must to prevent clogged pores that can lead to skin issues. However, the same principle applies to your entire body. Sleeping without clothing can facilitate better skin ventilation, reducing the likelihood of skin problems such as breakouts, as your skin is free to breathe and maintain its health.
- Increased self-confidence: Sleeping naked may boost your self-esteem and body image, as it encourages you to embrace your natural self.
