CBI summons senior IAS officer Bishnupada Sethi in bribery case

Bhubaneswar, Dec 14 (PTI) The CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) has summoned senior Odisha cadre IAS officer Bishnupada Sethi and his drivers for deposition as part of its investigation into an alleged bribery case, sources said on Saturday. In a letter to the IAS officer, CBI inspector Gurjinder Singh on December 10 said: “It is learnt that you are acquainted with some important and relevant facts and circumstances of the instant CBI case, which are required to be ascertained from you.” Sethi was summoned to join the investigation at CBI’s Bhubaneswar office on December 11, sources said, adding that the

New Delhi, Dec 13 (PTI) The Sealdah court on Friday granted bail to Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, and Abhijit Mondol, the former officer in charge of the Tala police station, in the rape and murder case of a junior doctor at the campus. New Delhi, Dec 13 (PTI) The Rajya Sabha was on Friday adjourned till December 16 following ruckus between the treasury and the opposition benches over a no-trust motion against Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Vice-president Dhankhar is the Rajya Sabha’s ex-officio chairman. Opposition parties, led by the Congress, have submitted a notice to move a motion to remove Dhankhar, accusing him of being “extremely partisan”. EVM verification plea should go before bench that gave verdict in April: Supreme Court

New Delhi, Dec 13 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Friday said the plea seeking a policy for verification of electronic voting machines should go before the same bench that delivered a verdict in April rejecting the demand for bringing back the old paper ballots. When the plea on EVMs came up for hearing, a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and P B Varale told petitioner’s counsel senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, “Why don’t this matter go before the same bench?” Sankaranarayanan informed the court about its April judgment on a batch of pleas over EVMs. “That is what I am saying.
