Trump, Modi plan joint press conference on Thursday

WASHINGTON, Feb 12 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump and visiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a press conference on Thursday when they meet in Washington, the White House said, a rare press briefing by the Indian leader. Modi held a press conference with former President Joe Biden during a 2023 visit, but it is unusual for him to take questions from the media beyond occasional interviews, mostly around the time of elections. He has not held a single press conference in India since becoming prime minister in 2014. In May 2019 he attended a press conference but took

MUMBAI, Feb 12 (Reuters) – The RBI’s unexpected and decisive intervention in the foreign exchange markets over the past two days, worth as much as $11 billion by one estimate, has reduced the bearish bias on the currency. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) intervention was brought on by a build-up in bearish bets against the rupee and the currency’s sharp slide over the past four months, analysts said. DBS Bank estimates the RBI sold $10 billion, while Goldman Sachs’ estimate is near $11 billion — a scale that surprised the market as the central bank’s involvement had reduced since

Polluted air, laden noxious gasses or tiny, invisible particles that burrow into human bodies, kills 7 million people prematurely every year, the U.N. health agency estimates. And for the

Rupee rallies most in nearly 2 years on heavy RBI intervention

Finance

MUMBAI, Feb 11 (Reuters) – The Indian rupee rallied on Tuesday on the back of strong intervention by the RBI (Reserve Bank of India), which traders said could deter heavy speculative positioning against the currency in the near term. The rupee closed 0.7% higher at 86.8275 against the U.S. dollar, logging its biggest one-day gain since March 2023. The RBI likely sold between $4 billion and $7 billion to shore up the currency on Monday to help it hold above the 88 handle and the intervention continued on Tuesday, traders said. The currency hit its all-time low of 87.95 in
