Mumbai, Jul 17 (PTI) Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty started the day on a firm note on Thursday but later faced selling pressure, with investors remaining in a wait-and-watch mode, as hopes are pinned on a favourable outcome from the US-India trade talks. Fresh foreign fund outflows also dented investors’ sentiment as they preferred staying on the sidelines. The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 119.05 points to 82,753.53 in opening trade. The 50-share NSE Nifty went up by 18.7 points to 25,230.75. However, later the BSE benchmark quoted 71.51 points lower at 82,554.47, and the Nifty traded 30.30 points down

Mumbai, Jul 17 (PTI) The rupee rose 12 paise to 85.80 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday amid a drop in global crude oil prices and a hope of a breakthrough in the ongoing India-US trade talks. However, a strengthening dollar against overseas currencies and FII outflows prevented sharper gains in the local unit, according to forex traders. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened weaker at 85.93 against the US dollar but moved into positive territory to 85.80, up 12 paise from its previous close. The rupee had declined 16 paise against the US dollar

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) in its preliminary probe report on the crash that killed 260 people on June 12 said the fuel switches to the

New Delhi, Jul 16 (PTI) Union minister Jitendra Singh on Wednesday said that lateral entry in bureaucracy has not been scrapped and the government is “still open” to reservation though it was not found feasible earlier. In a video interview with PTI, Singh credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for institutionalising the lateral entry recruitments — referred to as the appointment of specialists, including those from the private sector, in government departments. Following a political row over the lack of a reservation provision, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in August last year cancelled its advertisement to fill key posts in
