Markets rebound in early trade after 3-day decline tracking global equities

Mumbai, Jun 4 (PTI) Benchmark stock indices Sensex and Nifty rebounded in early trade on Wednesday after three days of decline tracking a rally in global markets. The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 230.17 points to 80,967.68 in early trade. The NSE Nifty went up by 70.25 points to 24,612.75. From the Sensex firms, Bharti Airtel, Eternal, IndusInd Bank, Maruti, Tata Motors and Bajaj Finance were the major gainers. However, Tata Consultancy Services, UltraTech Cement, Titan and ICICI Bank were among the laggards. Mumbai, Jun 4 (PTI) The rupee depreciated 25 paise to 85.86 against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday amid outflows of foreign funds. Forex traders said the decline was limited by a positive domestic equity market, softer global crude oil prices and a weak American dollar. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened on a weak note at 85.69 and slipped further by 25 paise to 85.86 against the American currency in early trade. More than 200 prisoners break out of Pakistani jail after earthquake panic, says official

KARACHI, Pakistan, June 3 (Reuters) – More than 200 inmates escaped from a jail in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi late on Monday when they overpowered prison guards after being allowed to leave their cells following a series of earthquakes, local officials and police said. The jailbreak began just before midnight and continued into the early hours of Tuesday after hundreds of prisoners were allowed into the courtyard of the District Malir prison because of the tremors, Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar, the provincial law minister, told reporters at the scene on Tuesday. New Delhi, Jun 3 (PTI) Gold prices gained Rs 70 to Rs 99,000 per 10 grams in the national capital on Tuesday, supported by rupee depreciation, according to the All India Sarafa Association. The precious metal of 99.5 per cent purity climbed Rs 200 to Rs 98,600 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes). Silver prices went up by Rs 100 to Rs 1,00,200 per kg (inclusive of all taxes) on Tuesday. The rupee declined 21 paise to settle at 85.60 (provisional) against the US dollar on Tuesday, weighed down by a firm American currency and outflow of foreign funds.
