Notification issued for 16th Census

New Delhi, Jun 16 (PTI) The government on Monday issued a notification for conducting India’s 16th census with caste enumeration in 2027, 16 years after the last such exercise in 2011. The census will be carried out with a reference date of October 1, 2026 in snow-bound areas like Ladakh and March 1, 2027 in the rest of the country, the notification said. “The reference date for the said census shall be 00.00 hours of the 1st day of March, 2027, except for the Union territory of Ladakh and snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi, Jun 16 (PTI) Wholesale price inflation (WPI) declined to a 14-month low of 0.39 per cent in May on easing prices of food articles and fuel, and experts said geopolitical tensions could push up prices. WPI-based inflation was 0.85 per cent in April. It was 2.74 per cent in May last year. In a statement, the industry ministry said the inflaton in May is in positive zone primarily due to “increase in prices of manufacture of food products, electricity, other manufacturing, chemicals and chemical products, manufacture of other transport equipment and non-food articles”. New Delhi, Jun 16 (PTI) Gold prices on Monday declined by Rs 532 to Rs 99,744 per 10 grams in futures trade amid muted spot demand. Analysts attributed the fall in gold prices to weak global cues and profit booking at higher level. Rupee falls 6 paise to 86.17 against US dollar in early trade

Mumbai, Jun 16 (PTI) Rupee declined 6 paise to 86.17 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Monday (June 16, 2025) as global crude oil prices continued to surge amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. A strong dollar against international currencies and FII outflows further pressured the rupee, while a positive opening at the domestic equity market and an increase in the country’s forex reserves prevented further losses, according to forex traders. At the interbank foreign exchange, the local unit opened at 86.16 before falling further to 86.17 against the greenback, down 6 paise from its previous close.
