Gold recovers as US-China tariff truce spurs bargain-buying

May 13 (Reuters) – Gold recovered on Tuesday as bargain-hunters stepped in after prices hit a more than one-week low in the previous session, pressured by a U.S.-China tariff truce that lifted appetite for riskier assets and dented bullion’s safe-haven appeal. Spot gold was up 0.6% at $3,254.39 an ounce, as of 0639 GMT. Bullion recorded a 2.7% decline in the previous session. U.S. gold futures were up 1% at $3,258.70. After two days of negotiations in Geneva, U.S. and China announced tariff reductions for the next three months, with U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports dropping from 145% to 30%

New Delhi, May 13 (PTI) A Delhi court on Tuesday granted bail to 10 TMC leaders, including Derek O’Brien, Sagarika Ghose and Saket Gokhale, in a case registered against them for their protest in April last year in front of the Election Commission of India despite a prohibitory order being in place. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal also granted relief to TMC leaders Santanu Sen, Dola Sen, Nadimul Haque, Vivek Gupta, Arpita Ghosh, Abir Ranjan Biswas and Sudip Raha, on an application moved by their lawyer. Markets drop in early trade after sharp rally in previous session

Mumbai, May 13 (PTI) Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty dropped in early trade on Tuesday, a day after recording a sharp rally, amid the emergence of profit-taking. The 30-share BSE benchmark gauge Sensex, declined by 497.5 points to 81,932.40 in early trade. The NSE Nifty dropped 117.2 points to 24,807.50. Later, the BSE benchmark index quoted 788.62 points down at 81,641.28, and the Nifty traded with a cut of 209.90 points at 24,714.80. Mumbai, May 13 (PTI) The rupee appreciated 74 paise to 84.62 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday, supported by optimism from easing of tensions between India and Pakistan as well as the US-China trade deal.
