Rupee rises 1 paisa to settle at 85.53 against US dollar

May 16, 2025
Finance

Mumbai, May 16 (PTI) Rupee rose 1 paisa to settle at 85.53 (provisional) against the greenback on Friday on the back of strong FII inflows and a marginal decline in the dollar index. Rupee’s gain was curtailed due to higher Brent crude prices, negative domestic equity markets, and the government data that showed the country’ trade deficit widening in April, according to forex traders. At the interbank foreign exchange, the local unit opened strong at 85.28 and traded in the range of 85.28 to 85.70. It eventually settled at 85.53 (provisional), up 1 paisa from its previous close. On Thursday,

It’s very hard to sell into India, and they’ve offered us a deal where, basically, they’re willing to literally charge us no tariff,” Trump said during a roundtable with business leaders in Doha, Qatar. India’s foreign minister S. Jaishankar later said

May 16, 2025
Finance

Mumbai, May 16 (PTI) Rupee rose 12 paise to 85.42 against the greenback in early trade, buoyed by strong FII inflows and a weaker dollar index. However, widening of trade deficit, a weaker start in the domestic equity markets and a rise in Brent crude prices capped further gains in the local unit, according to forex traders. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened strong at 85.28 against the US dollar before dropping to 85.42, higher by 12 paise from its previous close. On Thursday, the rupee depreciated 22 paise to close at 85.54 against the greenback. “Rupee is
