Rupee rises 6 paise to close at 88.20 against US dollar

Mumbai, Sep 15 (PTI) The rupee witnessed range-bound trading and settled higher by 6 paise at 88.20 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, as the domestic unit was caught between worries over US trade tariffs and hopes of a FED rate cut. Forex traders said, likely intervention of the RBI has helped in controlling volatility and preventing a quick depreciation of the local unit. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 88.25, then touched an intraday low of 88.30 and a high of 88.13 against the greenback during the day. The domestic unit settled for the day

Mumbai, Sep 15 (PTI) Benchmark Sensex dropped nearly 119 points while Nifty snapped its eight-day winning run in a highly volatile trade on Monday due to profit-taking in IT and auto shares after a recent rally. Ending its five-day rally, the 30-share BSE Sensex declined by 118.96 points or 0.15 per cent to settle at 81,785.74. During the day, it hit a high of 81,998.51 and a low of 81,744.70. Mumbai, Sep 15 (PTI) A truck driver, allegedly abducted after a road rage incident in Navi Mumbai, has been rescued from the house of former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar in Pune, police said on Monday. Khedkar has been accused of cheating and wrongly availing OBC and disability quota benefits in the civil services examination. The alleged abduction took place on Mulund-Airoli road in Navi Mumbai township on Saturday evening when Prahlad Kumar (22) was driving his concrete mixer truck, the police said.
