Mumbai, Jul 7 (PTI) The rupee fell sharply by 47 paise to close at 85.87 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday amid rising global crude oil prices and a strong American currency. Outflow of foreign funds fuelled by uncertainties over US President Donald Trump’s trade tariffs put further pressure on the local unit, according to forex traders. Mumbai, Jul 7 (PTI) Benchmark stock indices Sensex and Nifty closed almost unchanged on Monday in a highly volatile trade amid caution ahead of the July 9 US tariff deadline, weak trends in Asian markets and foreign fund outflows. After oscillating between highs and lows, the 30-share BSE Sensex finally ended 9.61 points or 0.01 per cent up at 83,442.50. China protests to India over PM Modi’s greetings to Dalai Lama on his birthday

Beijing, Jul 7 (PTI) China said on Monday it protested to India over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings to the Dalai Lama on his 90th birthday and the attendance of Indian officials at the celebrations, stressing New Delhi should fully appreciate Beijing’s sensitivities on Tibet-related issues. China’s position on Tibet-related affairs is consistent and clear and it’s known to all, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a media briefing here. Supreme Court to hear on July 10 pleas against EC’s decision to revise electoral rolls

New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear on July 10 a batch of petitions challenging the decision of the Election Commission to undertake special intensive revision of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar. A partial working day (PWD) bench comprising Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Joymalya Bagchi took note of the submissions of a battery of senior lawyers led by Kapil Sibal on behalf of several petitioners and agreed to hear the pleas on Thursday.
