During Yunus’ visit, Japan pledges over USD 1 bn to Bangladesh

Dhaka, May 30 (PTI) Japan on Friday pledged to provide USD 1.06 billion to Bangladesh for budgetary support, railway upgradation and scholarships as it reiterated full support to Mohammad Yunus-led interim government’s reform initiatives amidst protests by political parties in Dhaka over policy issues and election deadline. Japan and Bangladesh exchanged notes under which Tokyo will provide $1.063 billion to Dhaka as support for budget and railway upgradation and grants for scholarships, Yunus’ press wing said. Mumbai, May 30 (PTI) Stock markets closed lower in a range-bound trade on Friday following losses in IT shares and sluggish trends in Asian markets due to trade uncertainty after a US appeals court temporarily reinstated reciprocal tariffs. The 30-share BSE Sensex declined by 182.01 points or 0.22 per cent to settle at 81,451.01. During the day, it dropped 346.57 points or 0.42 per cent to 81,286.45. Rupee falls 8 paise to settle at 85.56 against US dollar

Mumbai, May 30 (PTI) The rupee pared its initial gains to settle 8 paise lower at 85.56 (provisional) against the US dollar on Friday, as volatility in domestic equities and recovering global crude prices pressured the local currency. However, a steady inflow of foreign funds supported the domestic unit even as investors stayed cautious, awaiting domestic GDP data to be released later in the day, forex traders said. New Delhi, May 30 (PTI) Gold prices rose Rs 100 to Rs 98,600 per 10 grams in the national capital on Friday due to a pick-up demand by the jewellers and retailers, according to the All India Sarafa Association. The precious metal of 99.5 per cent purity climbed Rs 100 to Rs 98,100 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes).
