Rupee hits record low

MUMBAI, July 17 (Reuters) – The Indian rupee is likely to extend its decline at Friday’s open, with a deteriorating risk appetite adding to headwinds from rising crude oil prices. The rupee is expected to open in the 96.40-96.44 range ‌to the U.S. dollar, per traders, having settled at 96.3450 on Thursday. The currency is on a four-session losing streak, during which it has slipped past levels that many market participants had expected to provide significant resistance. The currency now sits less than 0.5% away from its record low of 96.96 per U.S. dollar, hit in May. While the Reserve

Mumbai, Jul 17 (PTI) The rupee gained 14 paise to 96.28 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday buoyed by positive sentiments at the domestic equity markets. However, heavy FII outflows and higher global crude oil prices amid heightened tensions in West Asia prevented further gains in the local unit, forex traders said. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 96.35 against the greenback before rising further to 96.28, up 14 paise from its previous close. The rupee depreciated for the fourth straight day on Thursday, shedding 17 paise to settle at 96.42 against the US

July 17 (Reuters) – Gold was on track for its biggest weekly ‌loss in six on Friday, as escalating U.S.-Iran clashes lifted oil prices, adding to inflationary pressures and strengthening the case for higher U.S. interest rates. Spot gold was up 0.5% at $3,988.20 per ounce by 0313 GMT, having touched its lowest since July 1 earlier in the session. U.S. gold futures for August delivery were steady at $3,992. The metal, however, has lost 3.2% so far this week, its largest decline since June 1, with the ongoing Middle East tensions outweighing support from softer June U.S. inflation figures

No evidence mobile phones cause brain cancer – new study

July 17, 2026 (Conversation) Electromagnetic waves are everywhere. They’re the reason you can hear music when you turn on the radio, use wi-fi, find your way using satellite navigation, and make calls on a mobile phone. They are a form of electromagnetic radiation and sit at the weaker end of the spectrum, meaning they have the lowest energy and the longest wavelength. But because very high-energy forms of electromagnetic radiation – such as x-rays – can cause cancer, there has long been concern that radio waves could also harm human health. With the explosion of mobile phone use over the
