New Delhi, Aug 14 (PTI) The Centre on Friday notified 40 questions — caste, place of Covid vaccination being two of them — to be asked of respondents during the population enumeration phase of the Census, set to begin from September 1 in snow-bound areas, a government order said. The order from Registrar General of India Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan notifies questions such as whether the person belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe and their caste. Stock markets decline in early trade; Sensex down 300 points

Mumbai, Aug 14 (PTI) Market benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty declined in early trade on Friday as the prolonged US-Iran impasse weighed heavily on investors’ sentiment. The 30-share BSE Sensex was down 298.75 points to 77,760.21 in early trade. The 50-share NSE Nifty declined 74.20 points to 24,321.90. Rupee gains 2 paise to 95.43 against US dollar in early trade

Mumbai, Aug 14 (PTI) The rupee gained 2 paise to 95.43 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday, backed by a weaker greenback overseas. The Indian currency, however, remained under pressure due to the withdrawal of foreign funds from domestic equities and rising crude oil prices amid geopolitical uncertainties, forex traders said.
