New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) The Cabinet on Tuesday approved the Terms of Reference (ToR) of the 8th Pay Commission, which will be headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai. The panel’s award is likely to come into effect from January 1, 2026. The recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission will benefit about 50 lakh central government employees and 69 lakh pensioners, a government statement said after the meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mumbai, Oct 28 (PTI) The rupee depreciated by 8 paise to close at 88.27 against the US dollar on Tuesday on weak domestic stock markets and foreign fund outflows. Forex traders said a weak US dollar and softening of crude oil prices cushioned the downside. Mumbai, Oct 28 (PTI) Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty ended lower on Tuesday amid profit-taking and weak trends in Asian markets.
