Mumbai, Dec 31 (PTI) Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty jumped nearly 1 per cent on Wednesday, the final trading session of 2025, after days of range-bound trading amid sustained buying by domestic institutional investors. After five days of decline, the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 545.52 points, or 0.64 per cent, to settle at 85,220.60. During the day, it surged 762.09 points, or 0.90 per cent, to 85,437.17. Rupee rises 14 paise to close at 89.84 against US dollar

Mumbai, Dec 30 (PTI) The rupee rose 14 paise to close at 89.84 (provisional) against the greenback on Tuesday primarily on account of dollar selling by the Reserve Bank. Strong industrial output numbers supported the local unit, but a stronger greenback, higher global crude oil prices, and foreign fund outflows prevented sharper gains, forex traders said. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 89.98 against the dollar and traded in the range of 89.72-89.98 during the day. Mumbai, Dec 30 (PTI) Stock markets ended marginally lower on Tuesday amid thin year-end trading as persistent foreign fund outflows and a muted trend in global equities weighed on investors’ sentiment. Falling for the fifth consecutive day, the 30-share BSE Sensex dipped 20.46 points or 0.02 per cent to settle at 84,675.08. Bangladesh Chief Adviser Yunus mourns death of Khaleda Zia

Dhaka, Dec 30 (PTI) Bangladesh interim government Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former prime minister Khaleda Zia. Zia, the longtime chief of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and a three-time prime minister, died earlier in the day in Dhaka after a prolonged illness. She was 80. In a condolence message, Yunus said the nation has lost one of its great guardians with the passing of Zia, The Daily Star newspaper reported. “I am deeply shocked and saddened by her death,” he said.
