Gold declines from record high on profit booking, US govt shutdown worries

New Delhi, Oct 3 (PTI) Gold prices fell Rs 643 to Rs 1,16,945 per 10 grams in futures trade on Friday, retreating from record high as investors booked profits amid caution over the US government shutdown and Fed policy outlook. On the MCX, gold futures for December delivery declined Rs 643 or 0.55 per cent to Rs 1,16,945 per 10 grams in a turnover of 15,733 lots, snapping a five-day winning streak. Mumbai, Oct 3 (PTI) The rupee witnessed range-bound trading in morning deals on Friday and depreciated 5 paise to 88.76 against the US dollar, as the strength of the American currency in the overseas market and a negative trend in domestic equities weighed on investor sentiments. Forex traders said the USD/INR pair is trading in a narrow range as pressure from US policies, trade tensions and global uncertainties dented sentiments further. Mumbai, Oct 3 (PTI) Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty fell in early trade on Friday as relentless foreign fund outflows and selling in blue-chip bank stocks dragged the markets lower. The 30-share BSE Sensex declined 299.17 points to 80,684.14 in opening trade. The 50-share NSE Nifty dropped 76.75 points to 24,759.55. From the Sensex firms, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv, UltraTech Cement, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, Trent, ICICI Bank and Maruti were among the major laggards.
