Sensex jumps 575 points, Nifty ends above 25,300 after rally in Asian peers

Mumbai, Oct 15 (PTI) Benchmark Sensex spurted by 575 points while Nifty closed above 25,300 on Wednesday on buying in banking and financial shares, driven by a rally in Asian and European markets amid hopes of a rate cut by the US Federal Reserve later this month. The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 575.45 points or 0.70 per cent to settle at 82,605.43. During the day, it surged 697.04 points or 0.84 per cent to 82,727.02. The 50-share NSE Nifty climbed 178.05 points or 0.71 per cent to 25,323.55. Among Sensex firms, Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv were the biggest gainers.

Rupee recovers 75 paise from all-time low to close at 88.06 against US dollar

Mumbai, Oct 15 (PTI) The rupee bounced back sharply by 75 paise to close at 88.06 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday, posting its biggest intraday gain in nearly four months, due to likely intervention by the RBI and a surge in the domestic markets. Forex traders said domestic markets surged nearly 0.70 per cent on optimism over trade talks between India and the US, which reflected in the USD/INR pair. New Delhi, Oct 15 (PTI) Rising for the third straight session, gold prices on Wednesday rallied by Rs 1,000 to scale an all-time high of Rs 1,31,800 per 10 grams in the national capital on continuous buying by retailers and jewellers amid the ongoing festive season. According to the All India Sarafa Association, the precious metal of 99.9 per cent purity had closed at Rs 1,30,800 per 10 grams on Tuesday.
