New Delhi, Nov 18 (PTI) Gold and silver prices fell sharply in futures trade on Tuesday, extending their losing streak for the third consecutive day as fading hopes of a interest rate cut by the US Federal Reserve in December weighed on the investor sentiment. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures for December contract plunged Rs 1,807, or 1.47 per cent, to Rs 1,21,120 per 10 grams. Mumbai, Nov 18 (PTI) The rupee weakened 8 paise to 88.67 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday as equity market faced selling pressure amid global trade related uncertainties. A weak American currency, lower crude oil prices and some inflow of foreign capital into domestic stocks failed to support the Indian currency, forex analysts said. They said investors are concerned about increasing import bills and widening trade deficit of the country. Mumbai, Nov 18 (PTI) Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty declined in early trade on Tuesday due to emergence of profit-taking in-tandem with a weak trend in global equity markets. The 30-share BSE Sensex declined 292.95 points to 84,658 in early trade. The 50-share NSE Nifty dropped 83.3 points to 25,930.15. From the Sensex firms, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Tech Mahindra, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Larsen & Toubro were among the major laggards. Diabetes drug metformin could block exercise benefits, new study warns

Many assume that combining exercise with the diabetes drug metformin delivers double the health benefits, but new research from Rutgers University challenges that assumption. In a 16-week trial, the study found that metformin actually reduced the improvements in blood vessel function, fitness and blood sugar control that exercise normally provides. Metformin and exercise Type 2 diabetes affects most of Indians, and prevention strategies routinely emphasize a combination of lifestyle change and pharmacotherapy. One major contributor to diabetes and heart disease is metabolic syndrome, a cluster of conditions including high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess abdominal fat and abnormal cholesterol.
