MUMBAI, Feb 23 (Reuters) – India’s drug regulator has inspected nearly 90% of the country’s cough syrup makers and found compliance lapses, its chief said on Monday, amid heightened scrutiny after India-made syrups were linked to the deaths of children in the country and abroad. The inspections follow the discovery of a brand of cough syrup contaminated with diethylene glycol that was linked to the deaths of 24 children in October last year. The product, named Coldrif, was made by Sresan Pharmaceutical, based in Tamil Nadu. “We took serious actions on serious non-compliances, and our belief is that the rot

Washington, Feb 23 (PTI) Stressing that if Donald Trump’s tariffs are “such a good idea, he should have no problem persuading Congress”, former Indian-origin US Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal has said the President must seek legislative approval for sweeping tariff measures, as mandated by the American Constitution. Katyal’s remarks came a day after the US Supreme Court on Friday struck down Trump’s far-reaching global tariffs imposed under an emergency powers law, including the “reciprocal” tariffs levied on nearly every other country. The court ruled that Trump’s use of emergency powers to impose import duties without the approval of Congress

The highly offensive word could be heard as “Sinners” stars Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting the award for best visual effects during Sunday’s ceremony. Host Alan Cumming had earlier told the audience that a guest at the ceremony was John Davidson, a Scottish campaigner for people with Tourette’s who inspired the BAFTA-nominated film “I Swear.” Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary, repetitive

Mumbai, Feb 23 (PTI) The rupee gained 7 paise to settle at 90.87 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, aided by a sharp fall in global crude oil prices and a weaker greenback amid renewed global trade-related uncertainties. However, foreign fund outflows, coupled with geopolitical concerns, capped gains for the local unit, forex traders said. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 90.76 and traded in the range of 90.67-90.89 against the greenback during the session. It eventually settled at 90.87 (provisional), up 7 paise from its previous close. The rupee plunged 26 paise to settle at
