Mumbai, Feb 23 (PTI) Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty opened on a firm note on Monday, led by strong buying in banks and services stocks, tracking a rally in Asian markets. Rupee rises 21 paise to 90.73 against the US dollar in early trade

Mumbai, Feb 23 (PTI) The rupee surged by 21 paise to 90.73 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday, aided by a sharp fall in global crude oil prices and a weaker greenback amid renewed uncertainties over US President Donald Trump hiking tariffs to 15 per cent. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was down 1.09 per cent at USD 70.98 per barrel. A strong opening in domestic equity markets, along with a jump in forex reserves, provided further support to the local unit, according to forex traders. Firing heard outside BHU hostel

Varanasi(UP), Feb 22 (PTI) Gunshots were allegedly heard outside a hostel here at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), officials said on Sunday. No one was injured in the incident. Roshan Mishra, a third-year BA student, alleged that he was standing outside the hostel when three youths arrived on a motorcycle and suddenly opened fire in the air. Police have registered a case against three persons allegedly involved in the incident and efforts are underway to catch them, they said.
