Death toll in Andhra Pradesh train crash rises to 13

BHUBANESWAR, India, Oct 30 (Reuters) – The death toll from a train crash in Andhra Pradesh has risen to 13, with 39 injured, an official said on Monday, with investigators suspecting human error was the cause of the crash. The accident occurred when the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train stopped on Sunday because of a break in an overhead cable and the Visakhapatnam-Palasa Express service rammed into it from the rear, derailing two carriages of the stationary train. Bhubaneswar, Oct 30 (PTI) The Odisha Police has arrested Right to Information (RTI) activist-turned-politician Pradip Pradhan in connection with a mental harassment case filed by sprinter Dutee Chand in 2021. The Mahila police station under the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested Pradhan, who is also the secretary of the new political outfit ‘Mo Dala’. Dutee had lodged a complaint against Pradhan and some persons, alleging that she was mentally harassed for her poor performance in Olympics two years ago, officials said. Claiming that no action was taken against the accused, Dutee had moved the Orissa High Court, they said.
