Rupee slips past 90/USD level, settles 22 paise down at 90.20 against US dollar

January 2, 2026
Finance

Mumbai, Jan 2 (PTI) The Indian rupee slipped below the 90-mark and settled the day lower by 22 paise at 90.20 (provisional) against the US dollar on Friday, amid disappointing macroeconomic data and strengthening of the American currency in overseas markets. Forex traders said persistent foreign fund outflows and strong dollar demand from importers further dented investor sentiment. However, weak crude oil prices and a surge in the domestic equities cushioned the downside, they said, adding that any intervention by the RBI may support the rupee at lower levels. Researchers followed adults ages 25 to 84 with type 2 diabetes for up to a decade. None had serious heart or liver problems at the start. The authors compared people who started statins with those who didn’t — across all levels of heart-disease risk – from less than 10% to more than 30%. The results

ISLAMABAD, January 1, 2026 (AP) — Pakistan experienced its deadliest year in over a decade in 2025 as combat-related deaths surged 74%, with militants accounting for more than half the death toll, according to a new report released by an independent think tank. Islamabad often accuses Kabul of turning a blind eye to cross-border attacks by Pakistani militants, a claim Afghanistan’s Taliban government denies. Tensions between the two neighbors have been high since October following border clashes that killed dozens and wounded hundreds. The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, or PICSS, said violence in Pakistan left 3,413 people
