India’s opposition parties team up to challenge Modi’s party in 2024 elections

NEW DELHI (AP) — India’s fractured opposition parties decided Friday to jointly contest the 2024 national elections in their bid to unseat Prime Minister Narendra Modi and prevent his Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party from achieving a third straight win. The 26 opposition parties decided to work out seat-sharing arrangements in different states in “a collaborative spirit of give-and-take″ to avoid splitting votes in favor of Modi’s party. India’s national elections are scheduled to be held around May next year. Opposition alliance finalises coordination committee

Mumbai, Sep 1 (PTI) The opposition INDIA alliance on Friday finalised a 13-member committee comprising members of various parties that will function as the bloc’s highest decision making body and will start work on seat sharing immediately, sources said. INDIA bloc resolves to fight 2024 Lok Sabha polls together ‘as far as possible’

Mumbai, Sep 1 (PTI) INDIA bloc on Friday resolved to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections together “as far as possible” and said the seat-sharing arrangements will be concluded at the earliest in a spirit of “give-and-take”. The alliance adopted a resolution to this effect and said its theme for the elections will be “Judega Bharat, Jeetega India, (India will unite, India will win)”. “We, the INDIA parties, hereby resolve to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections together as far as possible. GST revenues grow 11 pc to about Rs 1.6 lakh crore in August: Revenue secretary

New Delhi, Sep 1 (PTI) The GST revenues for August 2023 have shown a growth of 11 per cent year on year due to increased compliance and less evasion, Revenue secretary Sanjay Malhotra said on Friday. The collection from Goods and Services Tax (GST) was Rs 1,43,612 crore in August 2022. “Roughly numbers are in the range of 11 per cent year on year growth as in earlier months,” Malhotra told reporters.
