Supreme Court rejects plea for reverting to ballots in elections

New Delhi, Nov 26 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking to revert to ballot paper voting in elections in the country. “What happens is, when you win the election, EVMs (electronic voting machine) are not tampered. When you lose the election, EVMs are tampered (with),” remarked a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and P B Varale. Apart from ballot paper voting, the plea sought several directions including a directive to the Election Commission to disqualify candidates for a minimum of five years if found guilty of distributing money, liquor or other material inducement to the voters

Nov 26 (Reuters) – Adani Green Energy said on Tuesday there is no new financial commitment under discussion with TotalEnergies, a day after the French oil major said it was pausing new investments into the Adani Group over U.S. bribery charges. TotalEnergies’ move was the first major fallout after U.S. authorities last week charged Adani’s billionaire chairman, Gautam Adani, and seven other people, with agreeing to pay around $265 million in bribes to Indian government officials. Mumbai, Nov 26 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday morning met Governor C P Radhakrishnan and tendered his resignation following the results of the assembly elections. The governor asked Shinde to act as a caretaker chief minister till a new CM is sworn in. Shinde visited the Raj Bhavan along with deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar.
