NEW DELHI (AP) — It began with a dinner invitation. How it ends could affect more than a billion people. State-issued invites sent to guests of this week’s G20 meeting referred to India’s president, Droupadi Murmu, as “President of Bharat.” Suddenly, in many circles, the question was everywhere: Would the country of more than 1.4 billion now be called by its ancient Sanskrit name? Congress Party chief and the leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha Kharge has not been invited to the G20 gala dinner being hosted by President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday, media reports said. Interacting with the media at Brussels Press Club in Brussels, Gandhi said the government’s action tells about

The FIRs were registered when the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government was in power. On Friday, Shukla’s counsel Mahesh Jethmalani informed the high

Supreme Court (SC)

New Delhi, Sep 08 (PTI): Observing that a lenient attitude shown by judicial institutions has emboldened unscrupulous litigants to disobey or commit a breach of an order with impunity, the Supreme Court has said courts need not show compassion when contemnors use them as a ”potent weapon” and ”legal trick” to wriggle out of responsibility. The observation came while the top court was adjudicating a case from the Gujarat High Court, which sentenced five people under the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971 for their deliberate and wilful disobedience of an undertaking given to it in 2015 in a property dispute.
