March 7 (Reuters) – India’s benchmark index Nifty 50 logged its best week in three months, led by heavyweight Reliance Industries and metal stocks, as losses in the past three weeks triggered bargain buying. On the day, the Nifty 50 rose 0.03% to 22,622.5, while the BSE Sensex ended 0.01% lower at 74,332.58. India signs $248 million deal with Russia for advanced battle tank engines

NEW DELHI, March 7 (Reuters) – India has signed a $248 million contract with Russia state arms exporter Rosoboronexport to acquire more powerful engines for its Soviet-era battle tanks, the Indian Defence Ministry said on Friday. The T-72 tank, first introduced in India in the 1970s, is the mainstay of the Indian Army’s fleet. It operates about 2,500 such tanks fitted with a 780 horsepower (HP) engine. The new acquisition of 1,000 HP engines will replace engines of the existing fleet to “enhance the battlefield mobility and offensive capability of the Indian Army”, the ministry said in a statement. MUMBAI, March 7 (Reuters) – The SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) will improve transparency in its functioning, including by revealing any conflicts of interest of its board members, as a way to build trust, Chairperson Tuhin Kanta Pandey said on Friday.
