New Delhi, Sep 25: The Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet has extended the tenure of IAS officer Amit Khare, working as an adviser to the Prime Minister. He has been granted an extension beyond October 12, for a period coterminous with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Khare is a retired lAS officer of Jharkhand cadre of 1985 batch.
The tenure of Khare was scheduled to be completed in October 2023. Khare was appointed as an advisor to the Prime Minister, before he was holding the position as the secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Amit Khare had been known as the man behind the National Education Policy 2020. He also played a significant role in bringing key changes in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting concerning digital media regulations.
Khare succeeded, ex-cabinet secretary PK Sinha and former secretary Amarjeet Sinha, who could not complete their tenures in the Prime Minister’s Office and had to leave mid-way.
Khare had also served as Collector and Deputy Commissioner of 4 districts namely Darbhanga, Begusarai, West Singhbhum (Chaibasa), and Patna. He has also served as the Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University.
He is credited for his role in unveiling the ‘Fodder Scam’ of Bihar in 1996 as the then Deputy Commissioner of West Singhbhum (Chaibasa).
He also launched an ‘Anti-Superstition Campaign’ in the district to save women from harassment due to superstition prevailing in society. His efforts were successful when the Bihar government passed legislation on the same.
