Haryana IAS officer held for taking bribe sent to 1-day police remand

Panchkula, Oct 13, 2023: Haryana IAS officer Jaibir Singh Arya, Managing Director (MD) of the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation (HSWC),was sent to one-day police remand in a case of alleged criminal conspiracy, extortion and accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh for a posting.

A complaint was received that Arya had demanded a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from the complainant for posting 0f his wife Rinku, working as Assistant Manager, Quality Control, HSWC who was on childcare leave from April 4 to September 30. The ACB arrested Singh on Wednesday after a middleman allegedly accepted the bribe on his behalf, an ACB spokesperson said.

The middleman, a private individual, was also arrested from Panchkula, he said.

A case has been registered against Arya, the private person and two others at Panchkula ACB police station, the spokesperson said.

Arya is the second Haryana IAS officer to have been arrested for corruption this week. On Tuesday, the ACB had arrested IAS officer Vijay Dahiya in connection with a bribery case registered in April this year. A 2001-batch IAS officer, Dahiya went on medical leave after being named as an accused in the case for allegedly seeking illegal gratification for getting bills cleared in the Haryana Skill Development Mission. He joined back recently but was without a posting.
