Shimla, Apr 24 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday said the registration of an FIR against Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge was an attempt to silence him.

He said the Congress party will not be intimidated by such tactics and it stands in firm solidarity with Kharge.

“In a democracy, an FIR was registered against the president of the main opposition party to threaten him. The Congress is not scared; it stands with Kharge,” Sukhu said.

The state unit of the BJP had on Thursday filed a complaint against Kharge for allegedly calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “terrorist” during a press conference in Chennai on April 21.

The complaint, lodged by state BJP media co-incharge Vishwachakshu at the Dharamshala police station, alleged that Kharge has “insulted 140 crore people of India” by using intemperate language against the prime minister and demanded action against him.

Such irresponsible statements create hatred and animosity that can lead to anarchy and law and order problems, the complaint said, demanding stringent action against Kharge.
