Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been remanded to judicial custody until July 12 in a corruption case linked to an alleged excise scam. The court said Kejriwal was identified as a primary conspirator and emphasized that more custodial interrogation might be necessary as the investigation progresses.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) presented Kejriwal in court after his three-day custodial interrogation ended. The agency requested a 14-day judicial custody, claiming that he was uncooperative and gave evasive replies during questioning.
The court acknowledged that the conspiracy involved many people in formulating and implementing the excise policy. It highlighted concerns that Kejriwal might influence witnesses and evidence. The judge found sufficient grounds for remanding him to custody for further interrogation and investigation.
