New Delhi [India], July 30 (ANI): Opposition MPs staged a protest at Makar Dwar in the Parliament complex on Thursday over the alleged police action against student protesters and allegations of financial irregularities involving donations to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya.
MPs from several INDIA bloc parties gathered at the Parliament entrance around 10:30 a.m., carrying placards questioning who ordered the alleged police action against students protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on July 20. They also demanded accountability from the Centre over the alleged use of force against students and the alleged mismanagement of temple donations.
The protest came ahead of the Rajya Sabha’s scheduled consideration of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Syed Naseer Hussain said the Opposition would hold a protest at Makar Dwar before meeting later in the day to decide its future strategy.
Hussain alleged that the government had failed to honour assurances reportedly given to the protesting students. According to him, the students had been told that no arrests would be made, no FIRs would be registered, and no action would be taken against participants in the protest.
He said the Opposition had placed three demands before the government: the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a statement in Parliament on the alleged police action against students, and an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Hussain claimed that only one of those demands had been addressed, while the remaining two were still pending.
Questioning the absence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah from the debate, Hussain argued that since the Delhi Police functions under the Union Home Ministry, the Home Minister should answer questions regarding the alleged police action.
Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav reiterated his party’s demand for accountability over the alleged misappropriation of donations made to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. He said the issue concerned the faith of millions of devotees and should not be ignored.
Commenting on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, Yadav said stricter legislation alone would not prevent examination paper leaks. He argued that the entire examination process—from setting question papers to printing and transportation—must be handled honestly to effectively curb malpractice.
The protest followed a demonstration by Samajwadi Party MPs, led by party chief Akhilesh Yadav, at Makar Dwar on Wednesday over the same allegations relating to temple donations.
The Rajya Sabha is scheduled to begin discussion on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, at 2 p.m.
